Volunteer

At Recovery Steps Cumbria, we’re always delighted when volunteers express interest in supporting our work.

Volunteering can support us in various ways, and we value anyone willing to dedicate their time to helping their community.

We’re committed to support our volunteers to achieve their own end goal, too. Whether you want to gain skills and experience or prepare for paid employment, we want to make sure you enjoy your role and get the most out of working within our team.

“Volunteers are as important to the service as any staff member, without them the groups would not be running and the service users would not benefit from their passion to support people through recovery.”

– Phillip Patterson, Team Leader

Our volunteers’ experiences

Whitehaven

A volunteer attends our Whitehaven office once a week to support with groups and holds drop-in sessions. During these drop-in sessions, people can come along and do a quiz, play a board game and get a warm drink and snacks. This volunteer supports people who attend the service who are anxious and shows them that recovery is possible by sharing his lived experience.

Barrow-In-Furness

“Drew loves volunteering for Recovery Steps Cumbria, and he also recently celebrated 6 years sober.”

Drew began his volunteering journey with us over 4 years ago. He has made a great difference and has provided invaluable support to people who access our service by running his support group. Drew is happy to help with anything that we need, from training with our needle exchange to weekly stock checking. Although Drew only comes in to volunteer once a week, he is a valued member of our team and always has a warm smile to greet team members and people we support.

Whether you’ve been supported by us or know someone who we have supported, or you just want to give back to your local community, we are always open to talking about volunteer opportunities.
